Lisa Stamp is a rheumatologist and professor of medicine at the University of Otago, Christchurch and Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury. She leads a research programme in gout, an arthritis of significant importance to Aotearoa New Zealand. Lisa’s research has focused on individualization of drug treatments in rheumatic conditions, particularly gout and she is considered a world expert on allopurinol and the allopurinol hypersensitivity syndrome. Professor Stamp’s research on gout management has been translated into clinical practice at both primary and secondary care level and her research in both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments has been incorporated into international gout management guidelines. Prof Stamp has been awarded the Value in Medicines Prize, the Arthritis NZ 50th Anniversary Premier Research Award for the NZ based researcher demonstrating a body of research resulting in improvements for the lives of people with arthritis, and a University of Otago, Christchurch Leadership award for support of early career researchers.
